ABOUT ALESHIA ARMOUR

Aleshia Armour was the first African-American, woman principal at Overland High School located in the heart of Aurora, CO.  Aleshia began her tenure with Cherry Creek School District as a Language Arts teacher at Liberty Middle School in 2003. 

 

She became the principal at Overland in the fall of 2019.  As described in a video interview with one of her students, this position was her dream job. 

 

During her short time at Overland, Aleshia took the school to higher heights achieving many milestones including:

 

  • Overland ranked on the US News and World Reports top school’s list for the first time in Overland’s history 

  • Installing a meditation and reflection room for Muslim students inside of the school

  • Math and Advanced Placement test scores and proficiency significantly increased

  • Developing a recognizable brand for Overland as an international school that focuses on academic success, inclusiveness and equity 

  • Implementing the celebration of heritage months including LGBTQ students and staff

 

The deep commitment Aleshia had toward equity and excellence influenced and shaped students across the entire Cherry Creek Schools community and will be carried on through her legacy.
